Heresy! Burn the heretic!!!! You know, when I told people in Oz
that Dylan wrote the song, they wouldn't believe me....... What's
the world coming to? "Dylan? Is that a bakery? Who's that?" X(
I like Dylan as a writer he's amazing but a lot of his songs are
performed a lot better by others in my opinion sorry, a lot better!
Case in point All Along The Watchtower :P I'm just winding you up.
@Abul - I listened to Appetite
For Distruction the other day, what an album... simply awesome
:)
Oh yes!!! I'm off to listen to "Get In The Ring" off Use Your
Illusion 2 now, ROCK ON!!! I'm happy to be burned as a heretic but
before you use the lighter just pass me that weed and skins... ok
fire away :P
I never got into GNR. Only reason Axl's still going is so he can
release the Chinese Democracy (which will be beyong awful I'd like
to add), earn a shit load of cash and therefore pay for his next
set of hair extensions.
I'm not saying Axl is any good these days but Appetite For
Destruction is in the top 100 rock albums of all time for me.
That's all I'm saying :) They've all been shit since about 1991
when their egos overtook their ability. Slash and the Snake Pit
weren't great, Velvet Revolver doesn't grab me either and I always
really liked Duff McKegan
@abul - Me too!! When I was
a kid I thought it was about a bloke called Mr Brownstone and years
later I went "shit! this is about heroin!!". In my defence I was 7
years old when that song came out :)
Have you guys ever heard Slash tell the story of when Gun's
& Roses played Vegas in 2000-01? Something like that. Obviously
he wasn't in the band at that point it was basically just Axl left
and he went down to check out the gig but was told by the security
he couldn't come in. He saw one of the stage managers he knew
walking past and said to him "tell these guys who I am will you?"
the guy apparently replied "they know who you are, that's why
you're not allowed in, Axl doesn't want you here" :D I doubt if
that's completely true but it's a great story
what was the song they had in Terminator 2? i totally forgot...i
just remember the lyric: "with your bitch slap something and your
cocaine tongue..." errr something
Cream? Clapton covered it didn't he? I was thinking of Marley's
version. I never really got into those "rock" bands of the GnR
era--I always thought they were pretty lame musically, possibly the
lovechild of some marketing stiff. Maybe I'm just jaded. Dylan
didn't have to try to be cool, he just was
cool.
Clapton was Cream??!!! Piss off, Ginger Baker was one of the top
drummers around at that time and Jack Bruce was a bass legend and a
mean guitar player too. He's one of the best melodic bass player
ever!! He used to do solos on the bass as good as Claptons guitar.
I like Clapton but I'm sorry that was billed as a super group
because all the members were huge stars in their own rights before
the band formed
Well, whatever. Never liked any of them, to be honest. But I
also think Jimi is overrated as a guitarrist. I think my music
taste wasborn to be in the minority in any group.... :(
Yes it seems like it Fab, you are very selective, music is like
food you can't eat the same thing every meal but it's all a matter
of personal taste I suppose ;)
One thing's for sure, media consolidation is killing music! I
don't agree with Billy Bragg 100% when he says capitalism is
killing music, because the free market (via Intarweb) is saving it.
Consumers want choice, just not the choice of the drivel the
corporate hacks are allowing to be put out.
Right with you @dontodd I
really like Billy Bragg and I agree with his politics too which
wouldn't make me very popular in the US. I don't agree with
everything he says but the music industry is a joke right now
@dantheman just like to
see fab get all loco! funny side story: i just turned on my
ipod and put on shuffle and first song that came on is a def
leopard one...
I like his music and his politics, "Waiting For The Great Leap
Forward" is one of my favourite songs, the lyrics are amazing.
"Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying... over
luxuries disappointment so go he walks over and he's trying... to
sympathise with her but he thinks that he should warn her that the
3rd world is just around the corner" not all his songs are great
but I like him :)

Nah I was thinking Gun's & Roses actually... but that's just because of my age, I loved G'N'R when I was younger ;)

The Dylan version of AATW on biograph (Dylan does Jimi doing Dylan) is better than the Hendrix version I think

@chibbigirl: According to IMDB, "You Could Be Mine".

Yes that's the one although the way Axl sang it it should be "Youuuu could be myyyyiiiiinnneeeeeah" :)

Capton was Cream, wasn't he? Yeah, Marley is the only name in this thread anyone named that gets credits from me. ;)
