Better than feeling crappy from having a cold!

That was me all last week... lasted about a week, I'm only feeling mostly better today.

    @Bishop: That's exactly what I meant.... :(

@zenith: Yeah. This is one hell of a bug! Much worse than my usual autumn flu...

@fabsh: My condolences, I hope you feel better soon... I had forgotten that Katy had a cold that you were bound to catch from her!

How are you fighting it? Just lots of sleep and plenty of fluids? (That's what worked for me...

and when I couldn't sleep, I leveled up in WoW. :)

    In an 8-day period (18-25 Nov.) I worked from 38 up to 52... :)

Only worked three of those days, though...

Can't give you a link (blocked at work) but look for Lorrax on the US Hydraxis server.

    @fabsh: Nice shirt! :)

Noticed you have a lot of vendor gear. Have you been questing enough? I usually have more quest reward gear than vendor gear, which frees up money for other things...

    2 years ago by Bishop

  • fabsh

I have loads of money and the vendors have better stuff then the crap I get for quests. What can I say.... ;)

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • Bishop

Just wait until you get your lvl 20 warrior quest. Then you're talking kick-ass gear. :) The chest armor I got from that quest, I was still wearing at level 40!

Or check the Auction House. :)

I just sell stuff at the Auction House. People buy all kinds of crap. I'm fucking rich! :P

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • zenith

Well yeah, but it can be good for buying as well as selling. ;)

I get great quest gear (especially Instance stuff) and sell tons of it on AH as well. I definitely make more money on AH than I spend there, since the only money I spend is on stuff like potions (and occasionally some quest ingredients, like if a quest needs a particular weapon as a turn-in).

Sold a dragon whelpling on the AH for almost 100g this weekend. :)

    2 years ago by Bishop

  • fabsh

How did you catch the dragon alive? Haven't done any instances yet, maybe that's the problem.

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • Bishop

The dragon whelpling pet is actually a rare drop off of dragon whelplings in the Badlands (which you won't see until you're in your 30's). It doesn't actually do a damn thing except fly around behind you, but people with too much gold buy it as a status symbol. :)

Yeah, instances are the best way to get great gear... usually get a bunch of green drops, and the bosses will often drop blues. Plus you have the quest rewards...

What you'll find as you progress is that the vendors may have gear with higher dps or armor rating, but it won't have the stat bonuses that you'll find in quest rewards or mob drops. I find that I very rarely buy things from vendors except crafting materials and ammo. Even food I usually make myself. :)

Today is the day to be buying and selling gems! Everyone is buying their new PvP sets. Our Guild Jewelcrafter just logged off, after making 10,250 gold today. I feel poor!

    2 years ago by Shadowform

  • Bishop

    Just... wow.

That'll buy a lot of pages for the guild bank. :)

  • Adventsparky

Ouch that's a lot of money. heh I'm terribly poor, making money only when I really really really need it

I've only got 180g, and that's after months of playing. But you just have to time these things right.

Another example: In a few weeks, if you have fishing skill at high enough level, you'll be able to catch Winter Squid. The "Winter" in the name actually means you can only catch these in winter. Catch many stacks of them and put 'em in the bank.

Then in six months when it's summertime, put them on the AH. SUPER MEGA CASHFLOW man...

Also look on the internet now for last year's Christmas quests, some of which have cooking recipes you have to use to make things like christmas cookies and eggnog. The ingredients for those always sell for big money from people who are too lazy to go out and farm the ingredients, so if you go out and get them now, they will be worth a lot in a few weeks.

    It's a frakking commerce simulation!

This past week I've listened to at least two podcasts that have talked about how to make lots of money using the AH. :)

It actually is fascinating, there are very real economies going on in this game and others like it. An increasing amount of real economic analysis is going on to examine how these economies operate. Some governments have actually talked about taxing the "earnings" people make in online games, for example - will we get a tax bill the next time we sell something at the AH?

And sometimes strange trends emerge. A study done back at the beginning of the year showed, for example, that buying gold is over 8 times as expensive on US servers as it is on European servers, even though the populations of the two sets of servers are roughly equal. 1000 gold costs about $260 on US servers, but only about $31 on European servers.

I guess that means that @Shadowform's guild's jewelcrafter better be prepared to pay the taxes on $2600 in income. :)

    2 years ago by Bishop

  • fabsh

If they pass a bill like that I will stop paying taxes alltogether on the grounds of the government having lost its mind. That is just redicolous!

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • Bishop

I certainly agree! But then again, I am also the resident anarcho-capitalist, so I think not paying taxes altogether is a great idea. :)

Notice how we never pay any taxes in the game? Great idea!

  • fabsh

Haha.... Yeah. Although, my gf has this theory that Blizzard makes loads of in-game money on the AH and the fligh service and gets even more rich that way.... :D

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • Bishop

Very interesting indeed! She might have a point if it weren't that Blizzard could simply create money on a whim. :)

(Which they essentially do every time we kill a mob, right?)

    2 years ago by Bishop

  • fabsh

Yep. That's why you don't have taxes in-game, too... ;)

    2 years ago by fabsh

  • Bishop

Of course government can simply create money on a whim, so why does it need taxes?

    2 years ago by Bishop

  • Shadowform

The same reason Blizzard doesn't: to avoid inflation as much as possible... Your gf is right fabsh, Blizz ensures that it keeps gold from spiraling out of control through repair bills and AH deposits... otherwise there would be so much gold that the game could become too easy.
